(2) BBC’s proposals for the future of local radio

The Deputy Speaker announced a time limit on backbench speeches (Standing Order No. 47(1)). 

Resolved, That this House calls on the BBC to reconsider its decision to reduce local news output from local radio journalism which will have a negative impact on communities across the UK, reduce access to local news, information and entertainment and silence local voices.—(Sir Mike Penning.)

20Liaison Committee

Estimates Days: Sir Bernard Jenkin reported, That, following the recommendation of the Backbench Business Committee on applications considered at its meeting of 20 June, the Liaison Committee recommendation for the allocation of time for the consideration of Estimates on the fourth and fifth allotted days in the present session (Standing Order No. 145) is as follows:

(1) That a day not later than 5 August be allotted for the consideration of the following Estimates for financial year 202324: Department for Work and Pensions (on the application of Sir Stephen Timms); and Ministry of Justice, insofar as it relates HM Prison and Probation Service (on the application of Sir Robert Neill);

(2) That a further day not later than 5 August be allotted for the consideration of the following Estimates for financial year 202324: Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, insofar as it relates to energy infrastructure (on the application of Stephen Crabb); and Department for Education, insofar as it relates to adult education, post-16 education, further education and colleges (on the application of Margaret Greenwood and Mr Robin Walker).
